Future Leaders of New Orleans.
Camp F.L.O. exists to make New Orleans a safer, more peaceful city, one middle schooler at a time. We work with students in grades 5 to 8 who have been hit hardest by school discipline: removals, suspensions, contact with the juvenile system.
Our answer is not another lecture. It is a kayak, a trail, a tent, a book and adults who do not give up. The outdoors gives kids a place to be brave. The reading and the curriculum give them the words and the habits to handle what comes next.
Camp F.L.O. is the flagship program of Believe In U Youth Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by former NFL safety Usama Young and led by educators.
Co-founder and Executive Director
Yusuf Young.
An educator with more than twenty years as a teacher, coach, school leader and district administrator. Yusuf runs Camp F.L.O. day to day and built the curriculum with the board: a former elementary teacher, a licensed clinical social worker, two attorneys who taught in New Orleans schools, and a high school director of student affairs.
